LEAD President Linda Masarira Dies at 43
Linda Masarira, president of the Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) and former presidential candidate, died at 43, her family confirmed on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
Masarira passed away in her sleep, according to a statement from LEAD colleague Abigale Mupambi.
Mupambi said she had met with Masarira on Friday and saw no indication of ill health.
The cause of death has not been released.
A relative confirmed the death to Hurumende News Hub, saying further details would follow from the family and authorities.
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana and the Dynamos supporters’ platform DeMbare DotComs were among those who posted public tributes, citing her role as an outspoken political voice and long-time Dynamos supporter.
Masarira led LEAD for nearly a decade and contested the 2018 presidential election.
